“I love the sound of the lion. It sounds very nice when it’s a bit far away from you but very scary if it’s close to you. You’re like “my god am I going to be its next meal” and your heart vibrates.”
Martha is a Kenyan nature and wildlife field recordist who brings conservation stories closer to the public through soundscapes, photography, tour guiding, environmental education.
Martha and Aslı (Field Recordist, Co-Founder at Vadi Sound) talk about eco-tourism, conservation and bio-acoustics, importance of actively pursuing mentors, cross-sharing with scientists, and what it means to be a woman in audio where women are still less than 5%. “Women are not encouraged a lot to get into the field work and you have to work twice as hard to prove to people that you can do this.”
